B. Le Maire, Minister for the Economy and Finance, visited New York this week (June 27-28) to meet with heads of financial institutions and to give a talk at the Economic Club of New York.
He insisted on the French government’s willingness to capitalize on the unprecedented momentum and the profound political and economic renewal that the election of E. Macron represented, through the imminent adoption of structural reforms and the pursuit of an ambitious agenda. He reminded his audiences that the renewal set in motion by the election was also about a new worldview that France wants to promote – with the United States: a vision of an open world, which favors multilateral dialogue over nationalistic protectionism.
Finally, the Minister views Brexit as a challenge, which will redraw the financial services landscape in Europe. The companies that the Minister met with were reminded that the Paris marketplace has what it takes to attract them, and that the new government will take the necessary steps to make the French capital even more attractive to them. The new structural and attractiveness measures will be announced in the upcoming days by the Prime Minister.
